Q. I read far too much information and it takes me ages - how do I learn how to read more effectively?

You need to develop a different reading strategy.  Try to split your reading into 2 different stages.  Firstly, an overview to understand the core subject and find a range of key themes and words which you can use to plan your assignment.  From this you should be able to find a range of comments/questions which you need to find supporting evidence for.  When you are reading to find very specific information it will be easier to use skimming, scanning, searching and filtering techniques.
