What does my tutor mean by writing academically?

In summary academic writing is structured, formal and evidence based.  This may seem unusual at first but once you understand the basic "rules" you will develop your skills and improve your grades. 

A good way of viewing examples appropriate to your subject area is to read academic journals and start to recognise good and bad examples.
